Creating a Statement Floral Mantelpiece at The Elvetham Hotel, Hampshire

For this styled shoot, one of the standout floral installations was the grand mantelpiece arrangement in the library. Positioned above the magnificent stone fireplace, the design became a focal point of the entire space, creating a romantic atmosphere while complementing the venue's timeless character.

Designing Flowers for The Elvetham Hotel


When designing wedding flowers for a historic venue like The Elvetham Hotel, it's important to work with the architecture rather than compete with it. The ornate fireplace and surrounding bookshelves provided the perfect canvas for a naturally abundant floral installation.


The brief for the shoot was to create something elegant, garden-inspired, and full of movement. We selected a palette of pinks, vibrant corals, apricots, warm oranges and creamy neutrals to bring warmth into the room while maintaining a refined and luxurious feel.


The floral design featured:

  • Snapdragons

  • Textural foliage

By combining premium blooms with flowing foliage, we were able to create a natural, organic look that appeared to grow effortlessly from the mantelpiece itself.

Creating the Mantelpiece Installation


Large-scale floral installations require careful planning and mechanics to ensure they are both secure and visually balanced.


For the mantelpiece arrangement, we designed the flowers to extend across half the fireplace with soft glowing candles across the other half, trails of foliage to cascade gracefully down the stonework. This helped soften the architectural lines and drew the eye upward towards the beautiful period clock above.


The arrangement was designed with depth and movement in mind. taller stems added height, while clustered focal flowers created impact and ensured the display looked stunning from every angle.


The addition of candlelight provided by www.luxuryhireco.co.uk enhanced the romantic atmosphere, allowing the flowers to glow beautifully throughout the day and into the evening celebrations.

Coordinating the Reception Flowers


To complement the mantelpiece installation, the reception tables featured a mixture of elevated floral designs, the theme being "a love story", we created book centrepieces and delicate bud vase arrangements.


The books were incorporated into the tablescape styling, creating a subtle nod to the library setting and adding character to the overall design. Soft lighting and elegant linens complemented the look, resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere.


The combination of statement floral installations and thoughtfully styled tables created a cohesive design throughout the room.
