How Much Does a Bridal Bouquet Cost? A Hampshire Wedding Florist's Guide

If you are planning your wedding and starting to think about flowers, one of the first questions you might have is "How much does a bridal bouquet cost?"
It is completely understandable question. Wedding flower prices can vary enormously, and when you are trying to put together a realistic wedding budget, it can be difficult to know what you should expect to spend.
As a wedding florist based in Alton, Hampshire, creating wedding flowers across Hampshire, Surrey and the surrounding areas, I wanted to explain what influences the price of a bridal bouquet and why two bouquets that look similar in a photograph can sometimes have a very different price tags.
What Is the Average Cost of a Bridal Bouquet in the UK?
As a general guide, you might expect a professionally designed bridal bouquet to cost around £100-£200+, although this can vary depending on the flowers, size, season and style you choose.
A smaller, simple hand-tied bouquet using seasonal flowers may sit towards the lower end of the range, while a larger, luxurious or more intricate bouquet using premium flowers could cost considerably more.
Rather than choosing your bouquet purely according to size, I always recommend thinking about the overall look you would love to achieve.
Your bridal bouquet will be one of the most photographed floral pieces of your entire wedding day, so it is often somewhere worth allocating a little more of your flower budget.

What Effects the Cost of a Bridal Bouquet?
There is not really a one price fits all approach to wedding bouquets. Several things influence the final price.
Your Choice of Flowers
Some flowers are naturally more expensive than others.
Premium garden-style roses, peonies, orchids and certain specialist or imported varieties can cost significantly more than flowers such as chrysanthemums, carnations or seasonal foliage.
Even within one type of flower, there can be a considerable difference in price between varieties.
This is why I ask couples about the overall look, colour palette and feeling they want to achieve rather than concentrating solely on a list of specific flowers.
It gives me the flexibility to select beautiful flowers that work together while keeping your budget in mind.
The Size of Your Bouquet
Naturally, a large, abundant bridal bouquet will require more flowers than a small delicate bouquet.
However, size is not everything.
A smaller bouquet filled with premium roses, orchids or out-of-season flowers could actually cost more than a larger bouquet created using beautiful seasonal varieties.
The Style of Bouquet
The shape and style you choose also affect the price.
A classic compact hand-tied bouquet may require fewer stems than a loose, romantic, garden-inspired bouquet with lots of movement and different textures.

Flowers that are naturally available around your wedding date are often better value and can also be at their very best.
If you have your heart set on a particular flower that is not naturally in season, it may need to be imported or simply not available.
For example, peonies are incredibly popular for weddings, but they have a relatively short season.
This is why I always encourage couples to be open to alternatives. There are often gorgeous flowers available that can give a very similar colour, shape or romantic feel.
The Time That Goes Into Your Bouquet
When you purchase a bridal bouquet from a professional wedding florist, you are paying for much more that the individual stems you can see.
Before your bouquet reaches you, your florist has spent time:
planning your flower selection and colour palette
ordering flowers specifically for your wedding
collecting or receiving your flowers from the wholesaler
conditioning and preparing every stem
allowing flowers to open to the perfect stage
storing and caring for them correctly
designing and creating your bouquet
finishing it with ribbon and beautiful details
carefully packaging and transporting it for your wedding
Creating wedding flowers is a process that often begins several days before the wedding itself.
Why Does a Bridal Bouquet Cost More Than a Normal Bouquet?
This is another question couples sometimes wonder about.
A bridal bouquet is not simply a larger version of a bouquet that you might buy for a birthday.
Every detail is considered.
The flowers need to photograph beautifully from different angles, complement your dress, work with your wedding colour palette and remain looking beautiful throughout your wedding day.
I order specific varieties and quantities especially for your wedding rather that simply working with flowers that I may already have.
Your bridal bouquet is just one part of your overall wedding flower budget.
You may also want to include:
Personal flowers
Bridesmaid Bouquets, buttonholes, corsages, and flower girl flowers.
Ceremony flowers
Aisle arrangements, urns, pedestals, meadow arrangements or a floral arch
Reception flowers
Bud vases, centrepieces, candles, top-table arrangements and statement installations
One of my favourite ways to make a wedding flowers budget work harder is to repurpose arrangements throughout the day.
For example, ceremony flowers can often be moved to your reception, aisle meadows can decorate your top table, and statement urn arrangements can be repositioned to create another beautiful focal point.
This allows your to enjoy your flowers for much longer without paying for completely separate arrangements for every part of the day.
Is It Worth Spending More on Your Bridal Bouquet?
If you are deciding where to prioritise your wedding flower budget, I would always recommend giving your bridal bouquet careful consideration.
It appears in so many important photographs - waling down the aisle, during the ceremony, your couple portraits and your bridal party photographs.
Long after your wedding day, those photographs will still be there.
That does not mean your bouquet has to be enormous or filled with the most expensive flowers available.
A thoughtfully designed bouquet using beautiful seasonal flowers can be just as special.
How Can I Keep the Cost of My Bridal Bouquet Down?

There is usually ways to achieve the feeling and colour palette you love without having to replicate an inspiration photograph flower-for-flower.
Being flexible with individual flower varieties is one of the best ways to do this.
Instead of saying:
"I must have these exact five varieties of flowers"
Thinks:
"I love this soft romantic, garden-inspired looking ivory, blush and pale pink"
That give me much more freedom to choose the most beautiful flowers available around your wedding date.
