Creating Romantic Wedding Flowers for a Beautiful Wedding at Southdowns Manor

One of the greatest privilege's of being a wedding florist is being trusted with such and important part of a couples's wedding day. From the moment the flowers arrive in the bridal suite, they become part of the excitement, anticipation and memories that will be captured forever.
Recently, I had the pleasure of creating and delivering these beautiful wedding flowers to Southdowns Manor, one of my favourite wedding venues in Hampshire. With it's elegant interiors, stunning countryside views and beautiful light-filled rooms, it provides the perfect backdrop for timeless, romantic wedding flowers.
Bringing the Bride's Vision to Life
The bride dreamed of a soft, elegant colour palette featuring ivory, blush pink and fresh green foliage. She wanted the flowers to feel romantic and luxurious while still looking natural and effortless.
This is a style I love creating. Rather than tightly structured bouquets, I prefer to design flowers with movement, texture and an organic feel, allowing each bloom to shine while creating an arrangement that feels beautifully balanced.
Every wedding is unique, and I spend time carefully selecting flowers that work together in both colour and texture. For this wedding, premium ivory roses were paired with delicate blush roses, white pompom dahlias, soft astilbe and eucalyptus foliage to create a timeless collection of bridal flowers.
The result was elegant, romantic and perfectly suited to both the venue and the couples vision.
The Bridal Bouquet
The bridal bouquet is always the centrepiece of the bridal flowers and one of my favourite designs to create.
Using luxurious garden-style roses alongside delicate seasonal flowers creates depth and softness, while the eucalyptus adds gentle movement and a subtle fragrance.
Each bouquet is hand-tied and finished with luxury ribbon before being carefully hydrated and prepared for delivery. Every stem is positioned with care so that the bouquet looks beautiful from every angle, ensuring it photographs perfectly throughout the day.
Bridesmaid's Bouquets
The bridesmaids carried smaller bouquets that echoed the bride's design while allowing the bridal bouquet to remain the main focal point.
Keeping the same flowers throughout the bridal party creates a beautifully cohesive look, particularly in group photographs. The blush roses complemented the ivory blooms perfectly and added just enough warmth without overpowering the overall palette.
Groom and Groomsmen Buttonholes
The buttonholes were designed to coordinate perfectly with the bouquets while remaining practical and comfortable wear.
Each on was individually wired and wrapped in ivory ribbon before being finished with a pearl pin. The groom's buttonhole featured a little extra detail to help distinguish it from the rest of the wedding party, while the groomsmen's buttonholes maintained the same romantic colour palette and elegant style.
Although buttonholes are one of the smallest floral pieces on the wedding day, they can make a huge difference in creating a polished coordinated look.
Behind the Scenes - Preparing for Delivery
One of the most important parts of the wedding floristry happens before the flowers ever arrive at the venue.
After every bouquet is completed, each arrangement is carefully hydrated, checked and packed into sturdy bouquet boxes before being secured inside transport crates. This keeps every bouquet stable during the journey and helps protect delicate petals from being damaged.
Wedding flowers are surprisingly fragile, particularly premium garden roses that have been reflexed to achieve that luxurious, open appearance. Careful transportation ensures they arrive looking exactly as they did before they arrived at the venue.
It is one of those behind-the-scenes details that most couples never see, but it plays an important part in making sure everything is perfect on the day.
Arriving at Southdowns Manor
There is always something special about arriving at a wedding venue on the morning of a wedding.
Walking into the bridal suite with the bouquets is one of my favourite moments. After months of planning, this is often the first time the bride gets to see the flowers in person.
For this wedding, the bouquets looked completely at home against the elegant interiors of Southdowns Manor. The soft blush and ivory flowers complemented the venue beautifully, and seeing everything come together made all the early mornings and careful preparation worthwhile.
Once the flowers were unpacked, I carried out a final check before presenting the bouquets to the bridal party, ensuring every ribbon, petal and stem looked as perfect as they could.
